chalkLAND way in may

The Chalkland Way is a 40 mile circular waymarked route through the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds and was created in 1994 by Ray Wallis. This year marks the 30 year anniversary.

Ramblers hosted a 30th anniversary walk at the end of April. We would like to continue those celebrations by promoting the route as a running destination throughout May. This is where ‘Chalkland Way in May’ is born.

Throughout May, run along any part of the Chalkland Way and tag us into a Facebook, Instagram or Strava post. When tagging us, it would be great to include a selfie or group photo in front of a Chalkland Way waymarker disc or favourite view.  Why not make a day of it and encourage your friends or running club to join you.

In partnership with East Riding Countryside Access Team and East Riding & Derwent Ramblers, a commemorative bench has been installed near Sylvan Dale along the Chalkland Way route. The bench was installed at the end of April to mark the 30th anniversary of the Chalkland Way, created by Ray Wallis. A commemorative plaque was also presented to Ray at Bishop Wilton village hall on 28h April in conjunction with Ramblers anniversary walks.

A special thank you to Sam of the Countryside Access Team and Tony of Ramblers who worked hard behind the scenes to make this happen, along with the landowner on the Warter Estate for agreeing for the bench to be on their land.

A £500 donation has been made to East Riding & Derwent Ramblers towards the cost, and to help towards maintenance of the route.
